People are using Gothic Rock as an umbrella term when they call sisters of mercy gothic rock. This band is Dark Wave as it is too electronic to be Gothic Rock and too poppy. The Gothic Rock term means Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and the cure. The scene only lasted from 1979-1983 and then Dark Wave took over and people started calling that goth.
